The many sights of Kuala Lumpur

With the soaring Petronas Towers, world-class shopping, state-of-the-art amusement parks, temples, mosques and a vibrant China Town, Kuala Lumpur is undoubtedly one of Asia's most exciting cities.

Start with a visit to Batu Caves, a complex of temples built within a limestone outcrop just north of Kuala Lumpur. The main attractions here are the towering gold Murugan statue and the 272 steps climb up into the caves. The Tamil festival of Thaipusam is celebrated with great fervour and attracts thousands of people every year. Back in the city, visit Masjid Negara, a mosque dating back to the 1960s. Inspired by Mecca's Masjid al-Haram, the mosque can accommodate 15000 worshippers. Next, head to Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur's very own China Town, and eat fresh food cooked right in front of you and shop for quirky souvenirs.

Spend an entire day at Sunway Lagoon, the largest amusement park in South East Asia. With 80 rides, there's no shortage of fun here. Take your pick between a water park, amusement park, wildlife park, extreme park and even one called a scream park.
