Most people recognize the Merlion as a mighty symbol of Singapore. This mythical creature, with the tail of a fish and the head of a lion, links back to the city’s roots as a fishing village and to its Malay name ‘Singapura’, which translates to ‘lion city’. With its innate closeness to the animal kingdom, it’s no surprise that Singapore offers the chance to truly engage with wildlife. At Singapore Zoo, breakfast with orangutans is a regular event. River Safari, Singapore’s river-themed wildlife park, hosts over 6,000 varieties of animals including multiple species of freshwater fish and a heart-warming panda couple, Kai Kai and Jia Jia. At Jurong Bird Park, the largest in Asia, you will see unimaginable varieties of our feathered friends—parrots, penguins, peacocks and much more. And for a nocturnal adventure, embark on a wallaby trail at Night Safari, where you’ll also meet sugar gliders and brush-tailed possums from Australia, New Zealand and New Guinea.
