Coastal Road Trip: Antalya to Fethiye

Situated on the western Mediterranean coastline of Turkey, Antalya, is the perfect mix of old world charm and new age style. Its main draw is the old city district of Kaleici, which wraps around a harbour dating back to the Roman era. Admire the Ottoman-era architecture and shop for authentic local handicrafts, including carpets, jewellery and leather ware. Later, hit the beach as the locals do and cool off with a dip in Mediterranean waters. Kleopatra beach is a popular strip for water sports during the day, and for its beach bars in the evenings, making it the perfect place for a sundowner.

Take the D400, a picturesque road from Antalya to Fethiye. Be ready to stop frequently, as there are many interesting sites to take in en route.

Almost completely levelled after an earthquake that struck the region in 1958, Fethiye has bounced back as a prosperous hub for gulet (Turkish yacht) cruises. From there, most visitors go to Oludeniz, 15 kilometres south of Fethiye Escape the crowds and set out to find a piece of paradise, on a boat cruise taking you to the spectacular Butterfly Valley.
