The magnificence of the Kalahari

Always dreamt of going on a safari minus the bevy of other vehicles, then head to Tswalu Reserve, South Africa's largest privately-owned game reserve. Owned by the Oppenheimer family and spread over 100,000 hectares of Kalahari grasslands, Tswalu, is an exclusive wildlife destination, for discerning travellers.

Choose between the Motse Camp and Tarkuni House, both of which together host a maximum of 30 guests at any given time. Go on long safaris with your own private guide and tracker, and spot as many of the 80 mammals and 340 varieties of birds found there, including the desert black rhino, black wildebeest and mountain zebra.

Play it differently and explore the grasslands on horseback or opt for a bush walk, and walk right into the wilderness. If you'd rather get a bird's eye view, then go on a helicopter ride or glide over the sprawling grasslands in a hot air balloon.
