The Cape Winelands, a region stretching upwards from Cape Town, is regarded as the best wine producing region in the country and is an absolute delight to experience.

Start at Stellenbosch, a town known both for the elegant architecture of its Cape Dutch, Victorian, and Georgian houses, and its world-class wineries. Established by the Dutch in 1679 on the banks of the Eerste River, the city has rich soil perfect for growing a variety of produce, including grapes. Tour the hundreds of wineries scattered around the outskirts of town and taste some of the country's best food in its award-winning restaurants.

At Franschhoek, a town set up by French Huguenots, amble down cafe-lined streets and charming boutiques. In the pretty town of Tulbagh, explore historical buildings and taste the Methode Cap Classique or the local version of Champagne.
