Athens, A Cultural Immersion

You don't have to go looking for the Acropolis in Athens, because no matter where you are, you will spot the 5th century BCE temple city complex, looming over the city. It's a much-loved monument and a symbol of Greek heritage and culture.

Visit the magnificent ruins of the Parthenon, and then head into the Acropolis Museum, to find out more about the ancient Greeks, their religious practices and daily lives. With gorgeous views of the Parthenon, the location of the museum is as impressive as the collections within. In the National Archaeological Museum, get a crash course in ancient iconography. If museums are not your thing, head to the Temple of Zeus and the ruins of Agora. Stroll through the stalls at the Monastiraki flea market and pick up souvenirs, then find a table at a cafe, and try the famous Greek souvlaki or skewered grilled meat.

At night, book a visit to the Athens Observatory to learn a thing or two about constellations.
